10 days ago, Friday, January 28th, 2022 I experienced a sports-related concussion. It has been the scariest injury I have experienced to date. The initial hit gave me a huge headache and a swollen left side of the head with a stiff neck. 40 minutes later I was being rushed to the emergency room due to dizziness, inability to talk, swallow, difficulty breathing, trembling, and short amnesia. It was brutal.
The first couple of days I had difficulty with fatigue, speaking, and overall functioning. As the days went on by I started to feel better to the point I could go on walks and do light exercise.
On the 6th day, Thursday, February 3th, after the concussion I decided to go back to work, but it ended up being too much stimulation for my brain at once. I started to get nausea, headaches, and by the end of the day I was unable to talk, my brain felt like it couldn’t move, and I was having difficulty breathing and even walking. I was once again rushed into the emergency room where they conducted a CT scan, an ECG and took blood samples. Everything came out fine, but dear God my inability to be able to speak and all the brain fog I felt had me deeply terrified.
Its been 3 days now and although there is still a lingering feeling of sluggishness, I am feeling much better. My main focus right now is giving my brain and body the foods it needs to recover along with slow incrmental exercises to strengthen my neuropathways and get back to normal. I’ve tried to read articles regarding concussions and traumatic brain injuries and I feel like an expert on this topic now after so much research. I understimated the trauma my brain was dealt and the recovery time, but that’s okay, I learned my lesson, baby steps not full on sprints! I will get there eventually, but for now baby steps 🙂
I feel much more upbeat and positive and just being able to write this posts makes me more optimistic about my full recovery. Health is wealth and abundance my dear readers. Protect it at all cost, take care of your body, mind and soul. How? by making the time, to give thanks, to exercise, to meditate, to eat well and healthy, to drink plenty of water, to watch what you put in to your mind and most importantly what you decide to focus on. Spend your energy focusing not on the negative, but on those positive outcomes you want to achieve, spend your energy on believing!
